Thanos, often called The Mad Titan, is a major antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This version of the character is best known for his role in Avengers: Endgame, where he seeks to bring balance to the universe by eliminating half of all life.
In the MCU, Thanos is motivated by his belief that overpopulation will inevitably lead to resource depletion and the collapse of civilizations. He systematically searches for the Infinity Stones, powerful artifacts that, when combined, grant him the power to achieve his goal with a single snap of his fingers.
His first full appearance in the MCU was in the mid-credits scene of The Avengers (2012), although he didn't become a central figure until later films. Josh Brolin portrays Thanos in the MCU.
